Frequently asked questions

A 403(b) plan for educators is a tax-advantaged retirement savings plan available to employees of public schools and certain nonprofit organizations. Similar to a 401(k), it allows you to contribute through payroll deductions and build savings for retirement while benefiting from potential tax advantages.

A 403(b) plan can complement other retirement income sources, such as a pension, by helping you save and invest for the future. Contributions are made directly from your paycheck, making it easier to save consistently and work toward your long-term retirement goals.

In many cases, yes. You may be able to adjust contributions based on your financial situation and plan rules. Adjusting your contribution amount over time can help you stay aligned with your retirement goals as your needs change.

Depending on your employer’s plan, contributions may be made on a pretax basis, which can reduce your current taxable income. Your savings can also grow tax-deferred until withdrawal, allowing your investments to potentially benefit from compounding over time.

You may be able to roll eligible assets from a former employer’s retirement plan into your current retirement account. A rollover can help consolidate your retirement savings and make it easier to manage your long-term financial strategy. Consider speaking with a financial professional to understand your options and any applicable rules.
